Holiday Events

Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

The annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony is hosted by the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce on the first Friday of December at Aktinson Plaza in downtown Douglas. See the tree lighted for the season and don’t miss your chance to meet the man himself, that’s right, Santa Claus.

CCAGCC Christmas Tree Lighting

Watch as the Christmas tree put up annually by the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County is lit to celebrate the season. The tree is put up outside the Coffee County Courthouse every year and decorated with butterflies representing children who are battling, have battled, or were lost to cancer. The lighting is held the two Tuesdays prior to Thanksgiving.

Festival of Lights Christmas Parade

The whole town comes out for this annual family event that features floats designed by community groups and members, the high school marching band and ROTC programs, plenty of candy, and, of course, an appearance by Old Saint Nick himself. This event is not to be missed. Route runs through downtown Douglas. Route runs through downtown Douglas on the first Saturday of December beginning at 6pm. The event is hosted by the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce.

Holiday Open House

We’re all about shopping locally in Douglas, and we’re fortunate to have so many stellar options available. On the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving, downtown merchants will open for a special day of shopping, dining, and fun in the heart of our historic city.

First Saturdays

Put your money where your heart is and come out to downtown Douglas on the first Saturday of every month for the First Saturday event. Stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues feature specials and stay open later for this exciting community event.

Wings and Things Festival and Fly-in

Visit Douglas and the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce are excited to announce the Wings and Things Festival and Fly-in to be held at the Douglas Municipal Airport on Saturday, April 20, 2024. We will be there from 9am-5pm with antique airplanes and military vehicles and a hot wing contest benefitting Coffee Cause for Paws. Come fly in a PT-17 Stearman or a Huey helicopter. Meet pilots from all over the southeast, or fly-in for the day and show off your plane. There will be vendors, food trucks, entertainment, and so much more. Gopher Tortoise Festival

The Gopher Tortoise Festival began in 2019 and is Douglas and Coffee County’s largest festival. The arts and crafts festival is accompanied by endless food and live entertainment in downtown Douglas. Don’t miss this signature event held the first weekend in October. The 2024 event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 5th from 9am - 5pm. Taste of Douglas

We have so many flavors brewing here in Douglas and Coffee County, you will not want to miss this annual event that features the best from local restaurateurs and food and beverage vendors. Held each spring, Taste of Douglas features delicious bites, live music and a day of fun and fellowship. For more information contact the Chamber of Commerce at 912-384-1873.

Clay Shoot

Since 2020, the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce has organized a clay shooting competition for its members and community. Children’s Art Festival

Join the Wiregrass Artists Guild and celebrate the art of local youth enrolled in Coffee County Schools. Artwork from students in grades K-12 will be on display. Held annually in March and hosted by the Douglas Coffee County Parks & Recreation Department and Coffee County Schools.

Munch and Music

Every Wednesday in April, come to Emma Ward Park at noon for the Coffee Alliance for the Arts Munch and Music event. Bring your lunch and get ready for some dancing and great music.

History at High Noon

On the 2nd Wednesday of the month, except November and December, come enjoy a history lesson of our wonderful community. The free 1-hour program features a different guest speaker each month. This history lesson is given at the Heritage Station Museum.
